We found our Portland Home!!

The Goodfoot!

Just a brief blog post this morning – laaaaaaaate night last night, and it looks like it’s already time to get on the road.

Yesterday we rolled up to this here place:

Got to see great friends from California that are now Portlandians, got to play pinball, got to have some delicious Portland brews… and then there was the show.

Mimi Naja and Brad Parsons brought their friends and amazing music to The Goodfoot to play with us last night. Thanks so much you guys! It felt like we were playing a house concert for all of our best friends that we hadn’t met yet.

We had a killer time. Super bonus – amazing clothing store next to The Goodfoot. Other amazing bonus – best vibe and crowd and show we’ve had in Portland to date.

Still kinda riding high on the good times of last night.

Gotta get to Bainbridge Island, WA today! Treehouse cafe, here we come.

YOUgene. And don’t you dare say euGENE.

Have you been wondering what a 360 tour of our van would be like? I knew it. So we made this for you:

Rolled into Eugene yesterday afternoon to Asha and Brad’s place. Those of you with long and food-related memories may recall this as the refuge of the roast pork with a balsalmic glaze, and the breakfast frittata. Good people there. Thanks Brad and Asha! Your hospitality and general awesomeness cannot be overstated!

We played at Cozmic that night – great sound, nice people. Had Aaron – our Prairie Sun intern who assissted in the studio on the new album – roll out with some friends. They held down the rhythm section in Swamp Jam with some rather stellar Steel Pizza Tray crashing. Epic.

A fine show that segued into 22s of Lagunitas, a documentary on The Magnetic Fields, and the 30 worst album covers of all time. A very good evening.

Brad one-upped his culinary reputation by braising – over a 15 hour period – a batch of pulled pork, and then fixing the greatest breakfast burritos you or I or anyone (other than the breakfast attendees this morning) have ever had.

This morning was spent looking for new shoes for Alex. His shoes have turned on him, and us. Something has either died or taken up a devious residence inside the body of his shoes, and is bent on the olfactory destruction of the world. We must put a stop to this!

In the process of shoe shopping, I managed to find some very kick-ass boots, and this music store with the absolute most astounding collection of Jaw-harps and squeeze boxes you have ever seen. You’ve gotta get there if you’re planning a jaw-harp/accordion duo project.

Tonight at The Goodfoot in Portland!!

Pendleton, Guns, and The GP

We took the midnight train to Portland last night. And by train, we mean Chevy G20, red, mustachioed van.
So here we are, crashed with Meagan and crew – thanks Dental Squad 5000! – and now we are that band in the coffee shops with their laptops and cables and phones and wires hanging out everywhere, talking loudly on our phones while updating blogs and answering emails. Ah, the glamor and the magic!

Yesterday was pretty amazing. We spent the first half of the day rummaging through thrift stores and trading posts… I scored a sweet, sweet, jacket and shirt. My used car / 70′s cop career is going to take off!

This Jacket makes dreams come true... So long as you dream in sepia tones.

speaking of trading posts, please, join us for this virtual tour of lots and lots of guns: Welcome to Barnum’s Trading Post of Pendleton, OR:

The show last night was gooood times. Pendleton gave us a very nice warm welcome, and The Great Pacific (or The GP, as the locals do call it) was a sweet, delicious haven of food, drink and internet connections. We basically moved in there yesterday. Ken, the owner, is one good and generous man. His pizza, also, is very, very tasty.

We were done with the show by 9pm… can you believe it? Well, you probably can. It was a Monday night, after all. But when you’re done so early, and you have a big, beautiful, red van, you can’t help but want to riiiiiiiide. So we piled in, said our thank yous, and drove ourselves to Portland.

Got in at 1am, crashed out, and now we head to Eugene to play tonight at Cozmic. Will their pizza be better than the pizza at Great Pacific? Only time will tell. Be sure to tune in tomorrow for the final verdict!

The Road to Pendleton

How did you spend your Easter?

Did you spend it making sick 80′s metal jams in your mustachioed van? …Cuz, that’s what we did.

Dammmmn.

We topped that off with going to the scariest yard sale we’ve ever been to (details to follow… tomorrow, when we’re safe) and a viewing of The Hunger Games. The Brothers Comatose give it a review of “She’s very hot”. Fun movie.
A big thank you to Domino’s for being open until midnight.
A big thank you to Lagunita’s for being so good at making beer, and so generous.

We play tonight at Great Pacific in Pendleton. It’s a free show, so don’t be shy.

Dear Boise, thank you for your Dancing and your Pizza…

Boise!

Damn Boise, but your inhabitants are some of the nicest, warmest, danciest, friendliest folks a travelling band could ever hope to run across. Oh – wait – except for that one guy. Here is a transcript of the actual conversation:
(us walking towards busking with instruments and big smiles on our faces)
Ryan: “Hey – you’re going the wrong way! Follow us to wonderful bluegrass music!”
Guy: “Fuck you.”
So, Boise, please have that guy hit by a bus or something. Other than that guy, you are a rad and hospitable city.

We played last night at the Neurolux Lounge in Boise. Possum Livin’ kicked it off with some good tunes.. and some serious banjo shredding. Well done. I won’t lie – it was a little slow at the beginning. We weren’t sure if the goodly folk of Boise were going to party with us… even though we rescued their falcon! We renamed our band “Falcon Rescue Brigade” in honor of that! No, no we didn’t. But that would be a kickass name for a band. Anyway, we were worried for the first couple songs until the dancing barrier was broken! Thank you dancing Boisians!

We even had a chance to get down and dance to some MJ after our set. There’s a rumor that some video footage of this exists. We’ll try and hunt it down. Oh – we found it:

We rolled over to the Pie Hole – pizza pie, that is – after hours. We set up out front and assaulted passersby with sweet, sweet string band music. We jammed with some superheroes. It was good. Had pizza, walked back to motel, crashed.

Happy Easter everyone. We’re off to Pendleton.

Now We’re in Boise

We left yesterday afternoon for our Northwest Tour.
Van is in tip-top shape, purring along thanks to the good work at 101 West Garage. Thanks Jay!
We’re all in tip-top shape.. compared to the diseased, mangled crew of last month.
Had to stop by Lagunitas to pick up some care packages for our friends on the road (…and maybe something for the band…) and we were off.

Yesterday we drove to Jordan Valley – a place in Southeast Oregon where the satellites doth not shine their mighty powers. We were incommunicado for a solid 12 hours. It was brutal.

On the upside, we now have a portable wi-fi hotspot in the van. Woot woot! On the even upper, upper side, with our new fancy smart phones, we can take decent video, make it look like it is grainy, 70′s video, and post videos of us around and abouts verrrry easily!
Observe:

First show tonight at Neurolux in Boise, ID with Possum’ Livin’. Goood times.

Photo Shoots and Tours and CDs to Release

This was the big birthday weekend here at Brothers Comatose Central.

The Spring Roots fest was absolutely amazing.  Tons of people – as in SOLD OUT tons of people – were there, the music was off the charts great from all bands involved – good food, great hot sauces – great beer – friends and family were all in attendance…  it was ideal.  We even were able to schedule a ‘power-outage’ (the PG&E guys said that we were “overloading their mainframe with all of our twangy rocking”) so that we could get down into the crowd and play a tune in the midst of the rowdy crowd.  It was goooood times.

Saturday saw the Van Photo Shoot.  Can’t wait to start sharing these gems.  Lots of van, lots of us, lots of us and van.  We rolled down to Santa Cruz for the shoot and the weather was so very obliging.  Post photo-shoot we rolled ourselves over to Don Quixote’s to open up for Hot Buttered Rum.  Great times were had by all…  except for maybe the woman who took our burrito order.  She didn’t seem to be having a good time.  Nope.  Not one bit.  Sorry!  Hope things got better for you!

We’re home now – we have a video in the editing works – a photo shoot in the editing works – a tour beginning Friday and a CD release show on May 19th.  It feels SO DAMN GOOD to be this kind of busy.

Thanks all.  See you soon.

Video!

We shot footage for a new video yesterday.
A big, big, big thanks to Lagunitas for helping us out with delicious beer.
A big, big, big thanks to Colin and Trevor who filmed the shenanigans.
A big, big, big thanks to our dear friends who met us at the park and danced and sang and shared beers.

Can’t wait to show y’all what we came up with.
Colin will be hard at work in his editing laboratory in the coming days. We’ll be sure to post it everywhere we possibly can once it’s done.

In the meantime, we’ll regale you with tales of video shoots, the outakes, the naked parts, and other harrowing tales while we’re all watching great music at the Sebastopol Community Center tonight for the Spring Roots show. Looking to be great times.

Spring Roots

Here is the deal folks:
Great bands and great food are yours for the taking… wait, that’s not quite right.
Come and enjoy delicious music and sonorous food?
The beer will be in tune, and the music will be cold and sudsy?
Indian food and Americana music! What could be better?

Whatever the headline, this Friday – at the Sebastopol Community Center, we are part of a serious party. Also, it is fiddler Philip’s birthday today, and it is bassist Gio’s birthday on Saturday. This means that the music will be better, and the party will be more meaningful… “More meaningful than raising money for STRAW (kids saving the world and the environment) and listening to great music while enjoying good beer?” you ask. Yes. More meaningful. Birthdays are involved. Possibly hats and treat bags too.

There is an actual contest associated with the Friday shin-dig. If you submit a photo of roots to the site linked right there you can win you some tickets (if you haven’t gotten them yet) or a prize at the show (if – wisely – you already purchased said tickets).

See you all there folks.

Ooh – also, courtesy of Sepultura, we offer the following:
